Do you love tweeting when new content or new deals are available on your website? If so, then you need to have an easy way for visitors to become your Twitter followers and what is a better way than adding a Twitter follow button in WordPress?
Using social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is crucial to growing your website’s traffic. These platforms have billions of monthly users and are the best place to advertise your website. Every follower and like you get is great for your website and your business will soon be the talk of the Internet. Today, I will demonstrate how to add the official Twitter follow button in WordPress.
Why Use Social Media to Promote Your Website
Unless you have been living under a rock for the last decade, then it should come as no surprise to you that social media websites have become part of many people’s everyday routine. No, this is not an exaggeration, there are billions of monthly users for these platforms and this creates the best possible advertisement tool on the entire Internet. Imagine this is like advertising for the Super Bowl, but every day. Yeah, that’s impressive and there is no reason to limit yourself to one platform. It is very common for people to use multiple social media platforms at the same time.
Let’s face it, the advertisement process is not cheap and many larger companies spend millions trying to advertise their products and services. Social media is a place where big and small companies are on a reasonably fair playing field, but not a perfect one. There are many paid options to advertise on these websites, but the beauty of social media is you can spread information by word of mouth or word of tweets in this case.
How to Add the Official Twitter Follow Button in WordPress
Today, I will demonstrate how to add the official Twitter follow button in WordPress. It is a very sleek and small button that you will have the freedom to add anywhere on your website. This is because it is added with a few simple lines of code and can be inserted into a text widget. The text widget can be placed wherever you want on your sidebars or footer.
The first thing you will want to do is click on Appearance and select the Widgets option.
The Widgets section is where you can customize the way your website looks by adding features to your sidebars, footers, or headers. This will give your website a unique look over other websites that are using the same theme as you. Scroll down through your widgets until you find the Text widget.
Click and drag the Text widget to where you want to place it. For this tutorial, I will add it to my sidebar.
Name the widget something that you will be able to recognize like “Twitter Follow Box” or a similar name. You need to copy and paste the following code into the text editor on the widget:
[ht_message mstyle=”info” title=”” show_icon=”” id=”” class=”” style=”” ]<a class=”twitter-follow-button” href=”https://twitter.com/greengeeks” data-show-count=”true”>Follow @GreenGeeks</a>
As you may have noticed when looking at the code, this is for our Twitter account @GreenGeeks. To change it for yours replace the “https://twitter.com/greengeeks” with your own Twitter pages URL. You must also change the “@GreenGeeks” to your own Twitter handle.
Once the code is all fixed click on the “Save” button to apply the widget. You can now check your website to see your Twitter follow button in action.
Congratulations, you have finished adding the official Twitter follow button in WordPress. Remember that since the code is in a text widget you can freely change the text widget’s location. You can also insert this code into your WordPress theme’s files for further control of its location placement.
Add Other Social Media Buttons
Twitter is a very big social media outlet, but there are others. Facebook, in particular, is the largest social media platform available. There is no reason you couldn’t add a Facebook like box as well. Buttons are just one of many ways that you can integrate social media into your WordPress website. Keep in mind that you need to make sure that you keep up with all of your social media pages that you are advertising on your website.
Utilizing Social Media is Vital to Your Website’s Success
I’m sure you are aware just how large social media is in today’s world, but make sure that you are setting up reasonable goals when you are starting out. If you are just creating a Twitter account aim for 50 followers and then make a new goal. Try to interact with every tweet you get and be as active as possible, but make sure you always have something to say.
Keep in mind social media is a great tool to use, but it can also be a double-edged sword and you need to be careful. You can most likely recall some celebrity’s tweet that backfired or pictures on Instagram that didn’t stir up the intended feelings. It’s very important that you always examine your tweets before posting. This can save you a lot of headaches later on.
How many followers do you have or plan on reaching this year? Have you decided to add other social media buttons to your website?
